It’s a ’98½ Dodge Ram 2500 with a 5. 9L Cummins 24-valve and manual transmission. The truck is already equipped with a BorgWarner S300G turbo (57mm/64mm/0. 80 A/R), 4-inch Magnaflow exhaust, ATS Diesel Performance exhaust manifold, aftermarket air filter, 150hp Mach IV injectors, and a M. A. D. S. Smarty JR tune. Now the turbo shaft has some play, so I’m wondering which new turbo I should buy. It seems to me the S300G does not produce enough air for the 150hp injectors because there is a lot of black smoke when accelerating from less than 1,800 rpm with the higher Smarty programs. I want to take the next step up on the power ladder but don’t want to deal with slow spooling. Rosenheim, Germany Answer: It sounds to us like you have a common desire among diesel enthusiasts: less low-end smoke, better response, and more overall power. We’ll start with the smoke, since VP44 trucks like yours have a rotary pump that’s famous for fueling hard down low in the rpm range. First off, most of your low-end smoke issue is coming from the fact that you’re using tuning that adds a lot of fuel at low rpm to help spool the turbocharger (at higher levels), along with larger injectors, which also add fuel across the entire... Sports cars go to the Nürburgring, but to put the 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor through its paces, engineers from Ford drove prototypes of the new pickup truck more than 1,000 miles through grueling desert terrain in the southwestern U. S. Most notably... While the trucks were prototypes made from a mix of 2015 and 2017 Raptor components, Ford says the testing proved that the new off-road-ready truck will be able to handle hard use. Over that distance, the 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor prototypes averaged an impressive 50 mph, hitting as much as 100 mph in wide-open stretches and crawling at as little as 10 mph when the going got tougher. Ford claims its test is "far exceeding" what the average Raptor owner would do to their trucks, to which we suspect many future owners will reply, "challenge accepted. " The 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor, introduced in January at the Detroit auto show, has aluminum bodywork to help it shed weight compared to the last Raptor. And instead of that truck's V-8 engine, the 2017 model has a 3. 5-liter EcoBoost twin-turbo V-6 engine and a new 10-speed automatic transmission. Despite the "6. 0" in its name, the donor S63 AMG's 5. 5-liter, biturbocharged V8 has been enlarged to just over 5. 9 liters (5,912 cc, to be precise), thanks to a larger cylinder bore and a longer stroke, the latter of which comes from a... While Brabus may be exaggerating about the size of its new coupe's engine, the tuning firm is not overstating said powerplant's output. There's more to this modded Mercedes than that, though, as Brabus claims the 5. 9-liter is actually capable of turning out a silly 1,069 lb-ft, but that it needed to be limited "in the interest of the longevity of the entire powertrain.
