Police responded to an area near Independence Avenue and Spruce Avenue just before 3 a. m. on Saturday upon reports that a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle. A witness at the scene told police that the 36-year-old got out of an SUV. The witness told police that the SUV then intentionally ran over the 36-year-old. Before fleeing the scene the SUV backed up over the victim and then drove over them a third time, the witness told authorities. Police say the driver of the SUV was last seen heading south on Spruce Avenue. The vehicle is described as a dark-colored Chevy Avalanche with tinted windows and dark-colored after-market wheels. Former Batavia officer admits domestic abuse - Chicago Daily Herald

A retired Batavia police officer who also served as Kane County Sheriff Don Kramer's campaign manager pleaded guilty Thursday to misdemeanor domestic battery and was admitted into the county's deferred prosecution program. Harper, 55, formerly of Sugar Grove, was arrested in February 2014 after his now ex-wife told authorities he tried to choke her after she said she was going to file for divorce, according to court records. Harper, who also owns the Drive Home Safe Driving School in Batavia, pleaded guilty to grabbing his wife, prosecutors said. In a petition for an order of protection, the woman told Harper she was tired of his physical and verbal abuse and was going to file for divorce if he didn't. She then walked out of their bedroom with pillows and her cellphone to sleep in their spare bedroom when Harper demanded her phone, and knocked it to the floor while grabbing her pillows. As she bent down to get the phone, Harper grabbed her and began choking her until the woman's teenage sons broke up the attack, according to the order of protection. They called 911 but Harper was not arrested until the woman's older brother took photos of bruises on her back and showed police, who turned over evidence to the Kane County state's attorney's office, the order of protection stated. Hartland man admits to stabbing incident - Livingston Daily

A 22-year-old Hartland Township man accused of stabbing a man in downtown Brighton faces sentencing after entering a plea to the charge. Police said Janssen stabbed a man “at least five times” with a standard pocket knife that had a 3-inch blade and cut another man who tried to stop him. 2 when four people in a Chevrolet Avalanche tried to find a vehicle for one of the four in the group. At some point, Janssen became agitated with the driver of the vehicle and his girlfriend, and he stabbed the driver — a 27-year-old Stockbridge man — in the right side, police said. Janssen also stabbed or cut a second victim, identified as a 22-year-old Pinckney man, in the armpit when he tried to disarm Janssen. At the time, Brighton Police Chief Tom Wightman said the suspect, victims and the girlfriend had been drinking alcohol at The Pound. At one point, Wightman said, one of the victims fought back, punching the suspect in the face. The police chief said officers found the suspect lying in a parking lot at Washington and Hyne roads after having been “pushed” out of the car by the other occupants, who then notified overnight security officers with the Brighton Fine Art and...
