City wide boiling notice in Weslaco expected to last until noon Thursday - Monitor

Mayor Pro-Tem Olga Noriega took to Facebook Tuesday evening to address the issue, noting that the source of the problem was at the water plant. Please know that the water pressure should be going up between two to four hours on the north side and a bit longer on the south side. On Wednesday, City Manager Mike Perez said the boiling notice was necessary because the city’s water pressure had dropped below 20 pounds per square inch, which procedurally requires officials to notify residents to boil. “Someone should have picked it up and corrected it, but that wasn’t done,” Perez said, noting that the boiling notice will likely be in effect for 24 hours, or until noon Thursday. “Whether for drinking or cooking, you have to boil the water or use bottled water. The Mid-Valley Town Crier reported in March that Weslaco’s $38. 5 million water treatment plant overhaul, which was designed in 2011 to upgrade old lines and more than double the treatment capacity, neared completion following numerous delays. Teddy Speeney, who will be a sophomore student at Connellsville Area High School at the start of the 2015-16 school year, created a Facebook group, “Connellsville Students Against Teacher Layoffs,” to draw attention to a board decision on May 26... “I feel it’s necessary that we keep our teachers,” Speeney said. Speeney and other students will attend the school board meeting at 7 p. m. on Wednesday to speak out for the teachers. The furloughed teachers will also introduce themselves to the board on Wednesday to show the faces behind who have been affected by the layoff letters, which have already been distributed, according to Karen Marko, Director of Human Resources for... “In my one class, there are already 27 students in it. That’s quite a few students for one teacher to handle.
