Fiat Chrysler forced into biggest vehicle buyback ever - USA TODAY

DETROIT -- The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said Monday it imposed the largest vehicle buyback program in its history on Fiat Chrysler Automobiles because the automaker has yet to fix nearly 200,000 pickup trucks and SUVs it... The $105 million in civil penalties and the buyback program are the outcome of NHTSA's investigation into FCA's lax repair and recall completion rates for 23 separate recalls covering more than 11 million vehicles. It applies mostly to Ram trucks and Dodge SUVs made between 2008 and 2012 that were part of three separate recalls announced in 2013. FCA recalled nearly 580,000 Ram pickups and Ram SUVs in 2013. NHTSA initially said the automaker must offer to... "This order requires FCA to offer buybacks for more than half a million vehicles prone to dangerous loss of control," Rosekind said. "As of this date, repairs have been completed on well over 60% of the subject vehicles, leaving less than two hundred thousand eligible vehicles," the automaker said in a statement. Nevertheless, the automaker said it will offer to repurchase the trucks and SUVs that have not yet been fixed for a price equal to the original purchase price minus a reasonable allowance for depreciation plus ten percent. Man crashes car, registers .414 blood-alcohol level - KXAN.com

AUSTIN (KXAN) – A man who crashed his car Monday afternoon in an East Austin parking lot had a blood-alcohol content more than five times the legal limit, according to Austin police. Officers said they were called to the Kensington Apartments near the intersection of Manor Boulevard and East 38th and 1/2 Street at about 5:30 p. m. , regarding a complaint of a highly intoxicated man who had hit a parked car in the parking lot. Police said they found Anderson drunk “to the point of falling over while walking. ” Two 16-ounce cans of beer were found in Anderson’s 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer. When officers conducted a preliminary breath test, it showed Anderson had a blood-alcohol level of. 414. A separate “Intoxilyzer” test administered by police showed Anderson had a blood-alcohol level of. 353, according to the arrest affidavit. A blood-alcohol level exceeding. 35 can cause alcohol poisoning, suppress vital life functions and cause death in some drinkers, according to the National Institute for Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism. DPS: 16-year-old dies in collision north of Big Spring - Midland Reporter-Telegram

At that point, the Silverado struck the Ford F-150 on its left side driver door causing both vehicles to skid into the center median. The F-150 rolled onto its left side and came to rest in the southbound lanes facing southeast. The Silverado, according to DPS, came to rest facing northwest in the southbound lanes of traffic. The passengers in the F-150 were Blantyn Tre Gusman, 16, and Zachary Tyler Duncan, 23. Gusman was taken to Medical Center Hospital in Odessa where he was listed Monday in critical condition.
