Village councilman, pal arrested for gun-running charged - Sun.Star

A VILLAGE councilor and his companion, suspected members of a gun-running syndicate operating in Davao del Norte, are facing charges before the Provincial Prosecution Office for allegedly selling loose firearms. 38 pistol, assorted ammunitions, and one KIA Sephia vehicle. Operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG)-Davao Region and Sto. Tomas municipal police arrested the suspects in a buy-bust operation in Kinamayan last Wednesday. CIDG Director Senior Superintendent Joel Pernito said the suspects are members of the Razul Gunrunning Criminal Group that has been operating in the province for several months already. "The group has been monitored by the operating unit for a couple of months already until the time they were caught in the act selling high-powered firearms," Pernito said. He added that the suspects were arrested after they received the buy-bust money from a police officer who posed as a buyer. Pernito said the operation was conducted in line with the Philippine National Police's (PNP) program Oplan Lambat Sibat with a primary goal of reducing crime, improving public safety and contributing to quality of life of the citizenry. The police, particularly the CIDG, is firm in their campaign against criminal groups and the confiscation of the loose firearms which could be used by the criminals, Pernito said.
