Couple sue car dealer over promise vehicle could tow - Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

Stephen and Melody Michael went car shopping in May with a couple of general parameters about price and mileage, but one key criterion: Whatever they bought had to be able to tow a small trailer used to transport Melody's electric wheelchair. They liked a 2012 Mazda 5 station wagon they were shown at a Delavan dealership, and after repeated assurances that it would tow the trailer, and that the dealer would install a hitch, bought it for about $17,000. But the first time they drove... After visits to a couple of Mazda dealers, the Michaels learned that the Mazda 5 is not meant for any towing, and would suffer damage if they kept trying to do so. Then they saw that the owner's manual states in no uncertain terms: "The Mazda 5 is... Never tow a trailer with your Mazda 5. ". When Kunes Country Chevrolet Cadillac refused to refund their money, the Michaels sued. The Michaels' attorney, Vince Megna, said his clients need the wheelchair because Melody Michaels suffers from muscular dystrophy and multiple sclerosis. Megna said the couple didn't use the trailer after learning it could ruin the Mazda 5 transmission or break its axle. Source: www.jsonline.com
