After spending time behind the wheel of two variants of the latest Mazda3, David Thomson has a fresh appreciation of what it takes to be a winner on the new-car sales charts. When Mazda launched its all-new Mazda3 model in March, the company was coy about its sales prospects. with registrations up by 53% over last year, the Mazda3 is selling at a storming pace. Equal in length, but longer in the wheelbase and wider in the track than the previous Mazda3, the new model cuts a handsome dash in sedan guise. The move to a less gawky nose and the strong sense of dynamism imparted by the sweep of key styling lines from the nose to the tail bring the 3 up to date with the latest Mazda family look, introduced on the CX-5 in 2012.
