Toyo Seat USA celebrates 25 years in Imlay City - Thecountypress

— A quarter century ago a Japanese parts manufacturer opened a plant at the end of South Almont Avenue to make seat parts for Ford Escorts being assembled down the road in Chesterfield Township. Toyo’s parent company began manufacturing car seats in Osaka in 1947 and opened a plant in Hiroshima to make car seats for Mazda. Serwick said it was Toyo’s relationship with Mazda and Mazda’s relationship with Ford Motor Company, which led Toyo to break into the U. S. market. While the company marks its U. S. anniversary with the beginning of production in 1990, it began operations in Imlay City with five people on the second floor of the old city hall in 1988. Just five years ago when the company was marking its 20th... The company ships roughly 100,000 parts per week, ranging from latches to seat frames, to companies that include Lear, JCI, TS Tek, GSA and BSC which make car and truck seats for Ford, General Motors, Chrysler, Honda, Toyota, Nissan and Mitsubishi. It’s unlikely the average motorist would recognize a part made by Toyo Seat USA, but if they drive a Honda CRV, a Ford F-150 pickup or pretty much any Ford SUV, they’re sitting on one.
