Alec Humbach crashed at South 300 West and Bob Barton Road when his 1996 Toyota Tacoma was hit by a 2002 Hyundai Elantra that failed to stop at the stop sign on South 300 West shortly before 7:50 p. m. Humbach died at the scene, police said. “He was an amazing young man with a kind heart and a kind soul,” said Dawn Soto, Humbach’s aunt. Along with Martinez, Dakota Cortez, 19, and a 15-year-old were in the Hyundai. Idaho State Police said the three passengers of the Hyundai were wearing their seat belts, but Humbach was not. “We can’t believe he wasn’t wearing a seat belt because he was always very safe, but we do know the truck was old and faulty,” Soto said. The 15-year-old was taken by paramedics to St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise. Martinez and Cortez were taken by paramedics to St. Luke’s Magic Valley Medical Center. Martinez and Cortez were in good condition on Monday, a St. Luke’s spokeswoman said. This is the 20th fatal crash state police have responded to since June 1. Six were in the Magic Valley.
