When mixed martial artist Ronda Rousey defeated her opponent in seconds this weekend, Misty Dawn Salinas wished she was sharing the moment with her deceased best friends, Sonya and Raul Gutierrez. She and Sonya would be inside cooking while everyone collected around a TV in the garage to watch a football game or a fight on Pay-Per-View. Sunday, Salinas set up a GoFundMe account for their 9-year-old son, Matthew. Sonya Gutierrez's death has been ruled a homicide while Texas Department of Public Safety troopers think her husband fatally collided with an 18-wheeler head-on afterward. Raul Gutierrez was a person of interest in his wife's death. Salinas' son, Mario, is Matthew's best friend. They have played for years together on Northeast Little League teams and on the Stampede Elite football teams. Raul Gutierrez, 37, who worked as a Formosa contractor, once coached the boys. Sonya, 43, meanwhile, worked at Texas Internal Medicine and was often a team mom, providing water during the games and planning end-of-season parties.
