The Beast of the East takes over the Valley - WTOV Steubenville
WHEELING, W. Va. -- More than $9 million will be spent over the course of this weekend in the Ohio valley, as more than 150 teams are staying at local hotels and eating at our restaurants. “It's my first year, but I think it's very competitive and there are a lot of athletes that play at a high level,” said Steven Telleriaas, who is in town from Long Island, N. "We've booked every hotel from Cambridge to Canonsburg to Steubenville to Moundsville and everything in between,” co-director Bo McConnaughy, who started the Beast of the East in 1989 along with businessman B. A. Crawford. The tournament features 156 teams from 17 different states and Canada, using 33 fields that play host to five games each day. "It's 12 and under, 14 and under, 16 and under and 19 and under so the competition level is pretty strong here,” McConnaughy said.
