AJ Allmendinger Earns Third Career Pole In NASCAR Qualifying At Sonoma - GM Authority (blog)
AJ Allmendinger put his No. 47 JTG Daugherty Racing Chevrolet on pole during NASCAR qualifying at Sonoma today, posting an average lap speed of 96. 310 mph in the final round. The California native, who started his racing career in Champ Car, was pegged by Jeff Gordon as the “guy to beat,” on Friday, as USA Today points out. Joining Allmendinger on the front row Sunday will be Kurt Busch, who was second fastest in his No. 41 Stewart Haas Racing Chevrolet. The final qualifying session was red flagged after Kyle Busch had an off at Turn 10 and spunt across the track. The incident prevented those drivers who had yet to cross the finish line on their out lap from posting a time due a frozen clock, potentially affecting the grid order on Sunday. The Toyota Save Mart 350 at Sonoma will go green Sunday at3:00 p. m. EDT. Source: gmauthority.com
