Cunningham raises MU women's basketball profile - STLtoday.com

COLUMBIA, Mo. • The Missouri women’s basketball program experienced a relative breakthrough last season in Robin Pingeton’s fifth year on the bench. The Tigers won 19 games, their most since 2005-06. They also had their best league record (7-9) in eight years and tied for seventh in the Southeastern Conference. That’s enough to inspire confidence about the future — especially with three regulars expected back from last year’s season-ending injuries — but Pingeton and her players have another reason to expect more in 2015-16. Sophie Cunningham, the most... Cunningham, Mizzou’s first player to appear in the McDonald’s All-American Game, first gave the Tigers an oral commitment in eighth grade, before she won her first of four consecutive Class 5 state championships at Columbia’s Rock Bridge High. The Tigers averaged 1,656 fans at home last season, which ranked 12th in the 14-team SEC. On the court, Pingeton expects the 6-1 Cunningham to give the Tigers “a little bit of everything,” she said. She’s got a lot of confidence, a lot of toughness, a lot of versatility. Cunningham left Rock Bridge as the school’s career scoring leader with 1,983 points, was twice named the Class 5 player of the year, has taken part in tryouts for USA. Source: www.stltoday.com
