The test takes place at 6,000-feet above sea level on a 6 percent downgrade with 4,000-feet of road. “One thing truck owners know is that it is not just about what you can tow uphill, but it’s just as important as how much you control that load going downhill,” Stanczak says. For this test, Chevrolet brought in some “friendly competition” in a 2015 Ford F-250 and the 2014 Ram 2500. Each of the trucks conventionally tow the same trailer with the same load. They start on downgrade with the goals of letting the truck brake all the way down from 50 to 40 mph without using the brake pedal. Each truck is loaded up with an impressive load of logs. After the first run with the 2015 Silverado HD matched up against the Ram, the results are surprising. The 2015 Silverado HD slowed down in 20. 1 seconds (1,345 feet) while the Ram slowed down in 49. 9 seconds (3,260 feet. The entire course was 4,000 feet and the Ford F-250 was at 43 mph at the end of it. Not only was this test done by Long and Stanczak, an independent group was hired to do the same test.
