BREMERTON — For veterans to receive benefits they’ve earned, they often need to travel, an ability Bremerton’s Disabled American Veterans chapter has become adept at supplying. A 2002 Buick Park Avenue given to Puget Sound Veterans Hope Center Monday was the fourth vehicle they donated this year. Puget Sound Veterans Hope Center, an offshoot of the Tacoma Rescue Mission, was founded on the principle of veterans helping veterans. “You’ve got folks really working hard on behalf of our veterans. A resource like this can be really helpful in making sure veterans have access to the care they need and have earned. Tacoma Rescue Mission board member Larry Geringer and friends for years have been helping vets access their benefits. “The problem is we don’t have any transportation to get them to the VA (hospital at American Lake) and the VA won’t provide it,” said Geringer, who served 26 years in the Air Force and 26 more at Boeing.
