More than 900 sign up for pro-Confederate flag ride on Sunday in Ocala - Ocala

More than 900 people have said they plan to participate in the “Florida Southern Pride Ride” on Sunday afternoon in Ocala. The ride’s organizer, David Stone, said he wants a peaceful, silent ride in support of the Confederate flag, which he defends on historic, non-racist grounds. Stone was among the speakers at Tuesday’s County Commission meeting, and he was pleased that the commission decided to reinstate the flag to the historical flag display in front of the McPherson Governmental Complex. But he said he’s still protesting moves, or potential moves, by other governmental entities to take down Confederate flags. Stone said he expects that number to swell between now and the ride’s 1 p. m. start time on Sunday. Stone declined to say where the ride is scheduled to end, but did say it will stretch 17 miles.
