Arrest made in fatal hit and run - WIAT 42
(WIAT) — UPDATE(X7): Canty was released from Shelby County Jail on August 9, 2015. UPDATE(X6): Michael Terry Canty III, of Tuscaloosa, is a repeat DUI offender according to the Alacourt website. Canty plead guilty to three DUIs: one in 2005, one in 2009 and one in 2012. Canty was convicted of two DUIs: one in 2009 and one in 2011. In 2011, Canty was also convicted for open container violation. According to a media release from the Birmingham Police Department, investigators have obtained warrants against Michael Terry Canty III, 31, of Tuscaloosa in connection with the fatal hit and run. UPDATE (X4): A suspect has been arrested in connection with the fatal hit and run accident, Lt. Scott Thurmond with the Birmingham Police Department said. As a result of the tips received and the tireless work by our Traffic Homicide Unit and Homicide Unit an arrest was made today. Once investigators present this case to the Shelby County District Attorney’s Office and a warrant is obtained the suspect’s name and mugshot will be released. UPDATE (X3): A description of the suspect vehicle in the fatal hit and run that happened early Wednesday morning on Highway 280 has been released.
