Some would rather park than cruise - The Detroit News

Some Woodward Dream Cruisers such as Chance Tess prefer to keep their classic off a crowded Woodward and instead opt for a prime parking spot. Tess, 58, of Pleasant Ridge prefers to keep his Acapulco blue 1967 Shelby GT-500 out of the jammed traffic on Dream Cruise Saturday. But this beauty Tess has owned for 36 years -- complete with Cobra stuffed animals sitting on the engine and atop the car -- was getting lots of attention just south of 11 Mile and Woodward in Royal Oak. "If I had a dollar for every picture that gets taken today, I'd probably go home with $500," he said, not long before someone came and asked Tess about his car and for a photo. Late Saturday morning, he had his red 1963 F-85 Oldsmobile Cutlass convertible parked in front of Royal Oak Ford. "I prefer to drive it, but as you can see, this traffic is too thick," Napolean said as cars in all four lanes of Woodward north of 11 Mile were crawling. Napolean said he's been coming to Dream Cruise for the past eight years and also owns a 1971 Chevrolet Monte Carlo. Tess said he drives the car in the summertime but typically picks a less congested traffic day. Source: www.detroitnews.com
