DUI suspect charged in Boca Raton pedestrian's death - Sun Sentinel
The F-150 driver, Bryce Samartino, 23, of Weston, was arrested Friday and faces DUI manslaughter and vehicular manslaughter charges. The crash happened about 10 p. m. March 1. Several witnesses noticed Samartino's swerving in and out of traffic and tailgating other drivers, police said. Samartino tried to pass other drivers after passing Mizner Boulevard and slammed into a woman driving a Nissan Altima. The crash caused Samartino to lose control and hit Ostagne before hitting a light pole and palm tree. Near the pickup truck on the ground, police found several empty Bud Light beer cans. Police received a toxicology report March 17, which showed Samartino had a blood-alcohol level of. 19, more than double the legal driving limit of. 08, according to the report. A crash-data tool allowed police to retrieve data from the pickup and determine that it was going 76 mph and that the driver wasn't wearing his seat belt, according to the report.
