Receiver-Drier and Accumulator


The Receiver-Drier and Accumulator are tank type devices that have nearly the same external appearance. The functions of the two devices are somewhat different however.

The Receiver-Drier store a refrigerant reserve to ensure a constant liquid supply to the expansion valve. A strainer and drying agent (called desiccant) are inside the receiver drier to remove moisture and clean the refrigerant.

The function of the accumulator is to catch and trap liquid refrigerant from the evaporator to protect the compressor. The accumulator also contains a strainer and desiccant for refrigerant cleaning and purification.
