ISP warns of possible asphalt scam - Evansville Courier & Press

Indiana State Police are warning area residents about a recent home improvement scam involving asphalt-laying workers and are asking any additional victims to come forward. According to a state police news release issued on Monday, people claiming they were from a company called Oaks Construction approached a New Harmony resident on Friday and told her that they could asphalt her driveway for cheap because they had... The woman wrote a check for the entire amount and then called her son and told him about the ordeal, according to the news release. Troopers stopped at least one of the vehicles suspected of being involved in the scam and arrested Michael Coope, 34, of Clinton, Indiana, because of an outstanding warrant from Illinois for a previous suspected home improvement fraud. State police noted that the reported victim in the New Harmony case was an 87 years old. Ringle said investigators do not believe Oaks Construction is a legitimate company, and he also said investigators believe the group could have changed the name of their supposed employer if they targeted other residents. Investigators said the group has two new smaller white dump trucks and that one is pulling a utility trailer with a Bobcat tractor, roller and other asphalt equipment. One employee drives a newer black Ford crew cab pickup truck and another employee drivers a newer white Ford crew cab pickup truck, according to the news release. Source: www.courierpress.com
