Byrne's runs at 390 cubic inches (6. 3 litres) and has an 255 horsepower big-block engine, and is a two-door three-speed automatic. He has replaced the wheels with new mag wheels, however, and "getting the convertible roof reupholstered is the next job on the list," he adds. It was also "converted to right-hand-drive, likely when it was imported to New Zealand," says Byrne. Its size also reflects the ideal "big American car" of that era. It stands at 5. 30 metres long and 2. 07 metres wide. It handles well, however, and is now used by Byrne as a cruising car. " says Byrne. "It drives very well, and sounds like a V8 should. The quintessential sound of the V8 engine seems to hold a lot of appeal for classic car owners, and Byrne cited it as one of his favourite aspects of the Galaxie.
