A 1940s Toronto photo extravaganza - blogTO (blog)

what a great collection: I was raised on top of the A. E. Osler Building at 11 Jordan St. (now covered by the 'new' Imperial Bank of Commerce) at Melinda and Jordan. I remember the newspaper 'boys' at the corner of King and Yonge outshouting each other for the business: "Star and Telly. get your Star and Telly here. All 3 of us worked in the Eaton's building on Albert St. Not there now, but the entrance was just about opposite where Scholes Hotel was and just down from the first Cocktail Bar in Toronto, "The Silver Rail". On our "breaks" at work we would all meet at the "Hub" in the basement of Eatons for coffee and a cigarette. Eaton's never sold cigarettes. None of us knew cigarettes were harmful.
