One-day Peggy Sue's Cruise in Santa Rosa 'overwhelming' for original organizers - Santa Rosa Press Democrat

Wearing a straw hat, sunglasses and a broad smile, Rich Williams led off the 13th annual Peggy Sue’s All-American Cruise on Saturday at the wheel of his yellow and black 1967 Camaro with his wife, Peggy, at his side. “An overwhelming day, just awesome,” Williams said, making a brief stop during the three-hour cruise through downtown Santa Rosa. With about 675 classic cars and trucks participating, the event was far smaller than the 1,000-vehicle processions of previous years, but the Williamses, who staged the charitable event for a dozen years, were enthused. The cruise, a throwback to days before the digital age when cars were cool, looked like it would end when the Williamses announced in January they would have to give it up to focus on Rich’s illness. There was some on-again, off-again until event organizer Orhan Sarabi said in April he would put on a scaled-back, one-day car show and cruise. The day began with a car show in the vast parking lot at Graton Resort & Casino in Rohnert Park, where the loud music mixed with louder, unmuffled engines. Fink, who said he’s driven in all but two of the Peggy Sue cruises, remembers cruising for real on Mendocino Avenue at age 16 in the mid-1960s. Source: www.pressdemocrat.com
