Description: This is an original air cleaner base and lid for 1960-61 Chevrolet Corvette dual quad carburetor applications. This air cleaner appears unused and shows no signs of ever being mounted on a car or intake. However, there are flaws from many years of storage and handling. The top has a couple of shallow dimples as seen in the final picture. There are also a couple of very light impressions on the top that will need to be worked out if looking for a perfect example of this air cleaner. These spots were difficult to photograph but can definitely be seen when the light reflects off it when looking at different angles. The aluminum surface is smooth with no deep scrapes or scratches. The louvers on the side of the lid are in good condition with no damage seen. There are no creases, major bends, or kinks seen anywhere on the lid or base. The lid is polished aluminum and the base is a heavier gauge aluminum or stamped metal. There are no wear marks surrounding the holes where the lid mounts to the carburetors, as seen in the 9th and 10th pictures. In addition, the inside upper insulation is very clean showing no signs of being used. The base shows no wear or scrapes from wing nuts surrounding either of the carburetor mount holes. The original removable filter was badly deteriorated and made a mess of the inside from handling so it was thrown out. There are remnants of the original filter on the top surface of the base that will need to be cleaned. The original "S" spring is in-tact and in good condition, as seen in the pictures. This air cleaner measures 14-3/4" in overall diameter.
This is not the perfect example of a dual quad air cleaner but probably one of the nicest, non-boxed NOS originals you will see for a while....
