Ford amps up quality, tech to sharpen new Edge - Chron.com

When one out of every five vehicles sold globally is a utility vehicle - motoring's Swiss Army knife, if you will - Ford's engineers and product gurus knew they needed to sweat the details to sharpen the second-generation Edge, its popular... We can still recall being almost shocked at how much fun the original Edge Sport was to drive. Just as important, the new CUV is also easier on the eyes whether one's gliding up next to you at a stoplight or you're nestled inside its more upscale, softer-touch cabin. To put a finer point to it: a wide range of standard or optional features means it's not at all unfair to discuss the new Edge along with luxury CUVs like the Lexus RX or Audi Q5. But those gotta-have goodies will cost you. The price can escalate from a reasonable $28,100 (and a base AWD Edge can still be had for under $30,000) and march right on up to the $46,000 range. Although the new Edge still has five doors, four trim levels, three engine choices (a four cylinder and two V6s), two drive systems (front- and all-wheel-drive) and one transmission (a six-speed automatic), there's a slew of new. Although Ford's kept the base SE, SEL and top-of-the-lineup Sport grades, a Titanium trim replaces the former Limited. 5-liter has been replaced as the standard engine by a new 2. 0-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder.
