Visitors at Sunday’s “Show and Shine” car show in Santa Rosa loved the 500 classic autos and hot rods, but many frowned at the news that this might be the last year the annual event is held in Juilliard Park. Car lovers signed petitions and talked to the mayor Sunday after hearing that Santa Rosa parks officials decided that the expansive urban park on the edge of downtown wouldn’t be available for such events next year. “It’d be a shame to see it go,” said Dave Gillingham of Windsor, who stood in cycling gear by his bike as he waited to sign a petition urging the city to allow the free event to return in 2016. He called the show a great event and said he came for... The often-empty, 9-acre park overflowed Sunday with autos, trucks, motorcycles, military vehicles and people. Those who bring their vehicles vote for the best cars, which receive awards in such categories as Stock, Hot Rod and Rat Rod, the last being for cars that have yet to be restored. The park has hosted annual car shows for three decades, the event sponsors said. “Show and Shine,” jointly sponsored by the Engineering Contractors Association and the Maintenance Superintendents Association, has been there each Father’s Day for about 12 years.
