TV crew murder suspect, Vester Flanagan, dead from self-inflicted gunshot wound - WJHL

FAUQUIER COUNTY, VA (WSLS/AP) – Officials report the suspect, Vester Flanagan, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound Wednesday afternoon. He shot himself Wednesday along Interstate-66 in Fauquier County, just outside Washington D. C. , after running off the interstate while being chased by police. Shortly before 11 a. m. , Roanoke police found his Ford Mustang at the city’s airport. The Mustang is being treated as evidence. Virginia State Police said shortly before 11:30 a. m. Wednesday, August 26 they spotted the suspect’s vehicle, heading eastbound on Interstate-66. Rick Garletts says the trooper followed Flanagan until backup arrived, then turned on her flashing lights. The male driver was identified as Vester Lee Flanagan, the man suspected of killing WDBJ7’s reporter Alison Parker, 24, and photojournalist Adam Ward, 27, during a live news interview at the Bridgewater Plaza near Smith Mountain Lake. Flanagan died about two hours later at 1:26 p. m. Wednesday from his self-inflicted injuries at a hospital in northern Virginia. The general manager of the TV station where the suspect in an on-air shooting used to work says he doesn’t know whether he wants the man to survive.
