Driven: 2014 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel blends truck-tough capability with midsize sedan fuel economy It takes years to pay for the premium through savings at the pump, but the 2014 Ram 1500 pickup truck’s new EcoDiesel engine is absolutely terrific. But this Ram stands out, thanks to its rugged looks and budget-friendly fuel economy. This bright-red 2014 Ram 1500 Outdoorsman Crew Cab, however, with 4-wheel-drive and a clattering turbocharged diesel engine under the hood, can be mistaken for nothing other than a real truck. Now that I’ve spent some quality time with this rugged Ram, it is my new favorite among full-size pickups. Appropriately, given the available diesel engine under its hood, today’s Ram 1500 light-duty pickup retains vestiges of the ground-breaking 1994 Dodge Ram design. The Ram’s exterior emulated big rigs, and made it instantly different and desirable in a segment dominated by Ford and General Motors.
