Winton man killed when disabled vehicle is struck on Highway 99 in Turlock - Modesto Bee

A 47-year-old Winton man, who had stepped out of a disabled vehicle on Highway 99 in Turlock early Sunday morning, was struck and killed by an oncoming vehicle. Shortly after 1 a. m. , Elisa Gonzalez of Winton was driving a black Cadillac Escalade south on the freeway when its right rear tire blew out. The front passenger got out and was standing near the right front door of the Escalade. The driver of a southbound Dodge Ram pickup approached the Escalade, applied the breaks and tried to avoid the collision. But the pickup struck the Escalade and the 47-year-old man. The man who was struck by the pickup got up from the pavement, stumbled to the front of the Escalade and fell down, CHP said. The driver of the Dodge Ram, Refugio Rios Jr. , 70, of Desert Hot Springs, and a passenger suffered minor injuries and were taken to Doctors Medical Center.
