Police: Vehicle stolen from Fayetteville street, set on fire - Syracuse.com

MANLIUS, N. Y. -- A vehicle stolen from a Fayetteville street Tuesday was driven into a patch of woods and set on fire, police said. Emergency responders rushed to the intersection of Warren and South streets around 11 p. m. after an SUV was discovered on fire, said the Manlius Police Department. Police discovered the vehicle had been stolen from the 400 block of Warren Street minutes before it was driven into a wooded area, doused with a fire starter and set ablaze. In addition to stealing and destroying the SUV, police said an unknown suspect or suspects rummaged through multiple unlocked vehicles Tuesday on Warren Street. Garage door openers, house keys and vehicle keys were stolen from vehicles. Investigator James Gallup said nothing linked Tuesday's vehicle theft and string of larcenies to a Sunday incident where two vehicles were stolen from a Manlius home. An unknown suspect or suspects broke into a Merrimac Drive residence in Manlius early Sunday morning while the home's five residents were sleeping, police said. The second vehicle, a 2009 Hyundai Elantra, was abandoned near a construction area behind Turning Leaf Drive south of Manlius. Source: www.syracuse.com
