To own a pickup is to be constantly hit on by people who don't, and want to borrow said truck to move their stuff. Toyota has been a player in this class for decades, and this week we drive their entry in this segment — Tacoma. For 2015, Tacoma goes from three cab choices to two. The Regular Cab has been dropped, leaving a choice of an extended cab (Access Cab, in Toyota-speak) or a Double Cab. Rear-wheel-drive or four-wheel-drive versions are offered with either a four-cylinder or six cylinder engine. My test truck was a 4x4 Access cab with the V6. The base MSRP was $27,035, and with three option packages added, the as-delivered price was $32,395. Tacoma's base engine is a 2. 7-liter four-cylinder, which makes 159 h. p. and 180 lb. ft. of torque. The step-up engine is a 4. 0L V6. The six generates 236 h. p. @ 5,200 rpm and 266 lb. ft. of torque @ 4,000 rpm. My stretch cab tester weighed in at about 4,000 lb. , and the six has enough guts to push the Tacoma along smartly (mid to high seven second range from 0-60).
