The tall and boxy five-door model was marketed not as a car, but as a so-called mobile device, with Nissan hesitating to put the cube (intentionally un-capitalized, since it’s such an individual. So, look for the recently-discontinued model to offer manual or CVT transmissions, a standard 1. 8L engine with 122 horsepower, a full suite of standard safety systems, and room galore on board, especially where headroom was concerned. Available feature content included automatic climate control, Bluetooth, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a punchy Rockford Fosgate stereo system, and a full range of over 40 individual accessory options, including a curious pad of shag carpet... Shoppers should note that model grades included the cube 1. 8, 1. 8S and 1. 8 SL, from basic to loaded where equipment was concerned.   The 2010 Nissan Cube makes a statement with its boxy styling, and it has one of the roomiest interiors in the class, good safety scores and a lot of available features.

  The 2010 Nissan Cube may have an unusual exterior, but that boxy design gives it one of the most spacious interiors in the class. When it was new, reviewers appreciated its cushy front seats and spacious rear row. The Cube doesn’t have a lot of cargo space with the rear seats in use, but if you fold the back row, you’ll get one of the largest expanses in the class.

  The base Cube has standard interior features that are typical for the class, but higher trim levels can be well-equipped with an iPod interface, satellite radio, Bluetooth and steering-wheel mounted audio controls. Standard interior features include air conditioning, a two-speaker stereo and an auxiliary input jack. The Cube, however, has a stronger list of standard safety features and above-average safety scores. Electronic stability control, traction control, electronic brake-force distribution and anti-lock brakes, which are a lot of standard safety features for a 2010 small car, all come with the Cube. A rearview camera was optional when the Cube was new.

  Auto critics said the Nissan Cube puts interior space and funky styling before performance. Though the Cube’s 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine isn’t very powerful, reviewers said it makes a capable commuter car and that it has good maneuverability. Overall, however, they said the Cube’s performance is just adequate. If reliability is a priority for you, note that the Cube’s reliability rating is average for the class.

  The 2010 Kia Soul is another small car that stands out in the class with quirky styling. Like the Cube, it has comfortable seating for five and a long list of standard interior and safety features. If you need to carry passengers and a lot of stuff at once, the Soul has more cargo room with the rear seats in use. The Cube and Soul have similar fuel economy ratings and identical reliability scores.

  The highly-ranked 2010 Scion xB is another car with a boxy shape and plenty of space for five. However, if you need to transport passengers and their belongings, the xB doesn’t have a lot of cargo space when the rear seats are in use. Folding those seats down creates a cavernous space. The xB comes with a lot of standard safety and interior features. The xB’s good reliability score makes it a good long-term value, but as one of the larger vehicles in the class, it costs more to fuel.
