Mercedes originated the “four-door coupe” with the CLS-class, which is basically an E-class wrapped in a sleeker, sexier body. The CLS400 has a 329-hp twin-turbo V-6, while the CLS550 has a potent 402-hp twin-turbocharged V-8. Rear-wheel drive is standard and all-wheel drive is available on both. Prices for the CLS models start higher than the E-class—but style isn’t cheap. Instrumented Test – 2015 Mercedes-Benz CLS400 4MATIC At 4264 pounds, this 4MATIC car was 100 pounds heavier than the older comparison-test-losing V-8 model, which was rear-drive. It was a marketing stunt meant to further raise the hype surrounding this model, a feat that made many Mercedes enthusiasts condemn the four-door coupe portrayal that was (and still is) trumpeted around. “Mercedes was right with the four-door coupe label.
