WASHINGTON — Lotus is recalling 860 2008-'11 Lotus Elise , Exige and 2011 Lotus Evora sports cars because the oil cooler hose may detach from its fitting, increasing the risk of a fire, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety... "A detached oil hose could spray oil on a tire, increasing the risk of a crash, or it could spray oil throughout the engine compartment, increasing the risk of a fire," said NHTSA in its summary of the problem. Lotus decided to expand an earlier recall for the same problem "following some failures in other markets and in vehicles outside the declared VIN range," the company told federal safety regulators in a letter posted on the NHTSA Web site. The affected Elise and Exige vehicles were built from November 2007 through July 2011. The affected Evora vehicles were built from September 2010 through September 2011.
