Lexus GS 200t replaces GS 250, on sale in Australia in December - PerformanceDrive

Continuing the rollout of the new 2. 0-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder engine, the Lexus GS 200t is the next model in line. It replaces the GS 250. The new 2. 0-litre turbo is, in our opinion, overdue. It is slowly being introduced as the replacement to the rather thirsty and low-torque 2. 5-litre naturally aspirated V6. As is the case with the GS 200t, which will replace the GS 250 in Australia in December. Under the bonnet sits a 2. 0-litre turbo four-cylinder engine producing 180kW of power and 350Nm of torque. It’s matched to an eight-speed sports automatic transmission with rear-wheel drive. Aside from the new powertrain, the GS 200t also debuts a slight styling refresh. Lexus says safety has been enhanced as well, with standard Lexus Safety System + comprising of lane keeping assist, Pre-Collision System (PCS), Intelligent High Beam (automatic), and all-speed radar cruise control. Two Reasons Lexus is Turning to a Turbo on the 2016 Lexus GS 200t - Torque News

In that compact sports sedan, the new 2. 0-liter turbo is replacing the snail-slow 2. 5-liter engine in the base IS sedan. 0-Liter turbo has decidedly more power, and dramatically more torque than the outgoing IS 250. However, the new 2016 Lexus GS 200t mid-sized sports sedan specs contained one imporant tidbit that the IS press information did not. In the new 2016 GS 200t, the 2. 0-liter turbo with 241 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque is expected by Lexus to return 33 mpg highway. Incredibly, the new GS-200t is expected to be only 1 mpg lower on the highway than the hybrid GS 450h sedan that is rated at 34 mpg highway (2015). We reached out to a Torque News contributor and owner of two GS 350 sedans and also a mighty RC F... LT as we call him, said "When the lease on my GS 350 is up I will be looking at the GS 200t. If the NuLuxe interior looks good and the cost of the vehicle is lower, I'd go that way. Lexus, like BMW, is turning to turbocharged, four-cylinder engines in its base sports sedans to offer reasonable performance and improved EPA-estimated fuel economy. Our guestimate is that the combined fuel economy rating of the GS 200t will be about 10% better than the GS 350’s.
