When the first XJ sedan appeared in 1969, Jaguar creator and boss Sir William Lyons advertised it as having "Pace, Space, and Grace. " Those words certainly apply to the 2005 Jaguar XJ Vanden Plas: Sprinting from 0-60 in 6. 3 seconds, reaching a top speed of 121 mph, it has pace. The Vanden Plas combines Jaguar tradition with modern technology in subtle ways: no in-your-face styling like the new Cadillacs, no F1-influenced look of a Mercedes S-Class, no 1938 Auto-Union race car aggressiveness of an Audi A8. Instead it... Yet there is a segment of the luxury car market ñ in many cases chauffeur-driven ñ that demands added back seat space and it was for them that the long-wheelbase XJ was created. The Vanden Plas (named after a Belgian coachbuilder) version offers a further touch of class. In the Driver's Seat (and the back seat, too). Jaguar XK/XKR (X150): PH Buying Guide - Pistonheads.com

On sale in 2006, the XK (X150) Coupe and Convertible followed the the X350 XJ by using an aluminium bonded and riveted monocoque with aluminium body panels. There are only two welds in the entire car, one either side of the roof. This made the X150 90kg lighter than the previous steel-bodied X100 and it's stiffer too, with the second generation Coupe and Convertible 50 per cent and 31 per cent more rigid than their predecessors respectively. At launch, Jaguar retained the 300hp 4. 2-litre V8 from the previous car in naturally aspirated form. The XKR arrived shortly afterward with a supercharged variant of that engine, though there was also a new fuel injection system to help with emissions, plus variable valve timing and a twin air-intake system. The 300hp XK covered 0-62mph in 5. 9 seconds and the 420hp XKR needed only 4. 9 seconds. For 2008, Jaguar introduced the XKR-S as a limited run of 200 cars. Top speed was raised from a limited 155mph to 174mph, the aerodynamics were improved and larger Alcon brake discs were also added. It's one of few cars where pictures don't do it justice. Here’s an odd fact about the Jaguar’s new XE executive car. That’s twice the rate of non-diesel takeup that Jaguar predicted. To try and uncover why this should be, we decided to take a look at one of the two four-cylinder 2. 0-litre petrol options, both of which are built by Ford in Valencia while we wait a year or so for the petrol versions of the advanced new Ingenium... The understandable upshot of this is that almost all fleet XE users will tick the diesel box, and in one respect that’s a shame because they will never enjoy the superb refinement of the 2. 0 petrol. There’s no manual gearbox available with either petrol unit, which will be a sticking point for some, but as far as the more powerful engine goes at least the 8-speed ZF automatic gearbox makes for a terrific partner. You can immerse yourself more in the driving experience by triggering quick and positive shifts through the wheel paddles, but left to its own devices, odd slow kickdown apart, the transmission does a fine job of maximising the engine’s torque...
