Monday, 300 block of South Main Street, Scott Bath, 30, Baldwin City, was arrested on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana after being stopped for a traffic infraction. Monday, 600 block of South Maple Street, Russell Ribeau, 72, Ottawa, on suspicion of violating a protection order and resisting arrest. Tuesday, 200 block of West 13th Street, a 14-year-old Ottawa boy on suspicion of possession of marijuana, possession of paraphernalia and disorderly conduct after being contacted for suspicious activity in the park. A 13-year-old Ottawa girl was arrested on suspicion of disorderly conduct as well. Friday, 100 block of West 10th Street, a 31-year old Ottawa woman reported a known man attempted to hit her with his vehicle. Tuesday, 3100 block of Georgia Road, a 34-year-old Ottawa woman reported she was having a physical altercation with her juvenile son. C. — He’s white, slightly built and in his early 20s — and police say he walked into a Charleston, South Carolina, church and fatally shot nine people as they attended Bible study class. Police released a flier Thursday morning with details of the suspect in the attack on the historic African-American church as they appealed for help to track him down as quickly as possible. Charleston Police Chief Gregory Mullen told a news conference that officers “have obtained surveillance videos of the suspect in this case and a suspect vehicle. Mullen said the suspect was a “younger white male between 21 and 25 years of age, 5-foot-9 in height” and “has a very distinctive sweatshirt that has markings. Mullen emphasized the suspect is “a very dangerous individual” and said “he should not be approached by anyone. Any people who recognize the suspect or spots the vehicle should alert law enforcement, he said, rather than trying to follow themselves. A female survivor told family members that the gunman told her he was letting her live to tell everyone else what happened, Dot Scott, president of the local branch of the NAACP, told CNN. Man accused of shooting at trooper wrestled with deputy over gun in 2001 - Belleville News-Democrat

ourteen years before an Illinois State Police trooper said Gregory K. Nelson took a shot at him, Nelson faced charges for pulling a gun on a Madison County deputy. Nelson, of East St. Louis, saw that charge dropped, but wound up going to prison for filing the serial number off of the gun he used in the crime. Nelson, 52, of East St. Louis, currently faces charges of attempted first-degree murder, unlawful use of a weapon by a felon and aggravated discharge of a firearm. Nelson is accused of firing a shot at a trooper who was conducting a traffic stop about 11:30 p. m. June 23 on the northbound entrance ramp to Interstate 255 from State Street in East St. Louis. The trooper stopped Nelson, who was suspected of driving under the influence. When he asked Nelson to get out of the car for a field sobriety test, Nelson pulled a gun and fired at the trooper. Nelson was captured four days later at an apartment building in St. Ann, Mo. The identity of the trooper was not released. Clair County State’s Attorney Brendan Kelly and defense attorney Alex Enyart declined to comment because the case is pending. Nelson got into a car when he saw Reynolds drive onto the parking lot, a police report stated. “He told me he was waiting for a female inside the store,” Reynolds said of Nelson, according to the report.
