Unlike the car's electric air-conditioning, the heater can't rely on battery energy to warm up the car's occupants. Instead of 40-60 mpg on my commute (the 20-mpg spread is almost entirely traffic-dependent), 30-35 becomes the norm. Lest we forget, Real MPG is 46. 8/41. 6/44. 3 mpg city/highway/combined. Although it's generally accepted that gas-electric hybrids are more susceptible to wide fuel-economy swings (note the variance in my commuting above), our Real MPG test has determined the Accord is minimally penalized by bouts of aggression. Excavated from the test, the aggression penalty studies the change in CO2 emissions with severer-than-average acceleration rates. The Toyota Prius , the most common hybrid in the world, earned an average penalty. As each mile per gallon carries more sway on thirstier vehicles -- 3 mpg difference on a 40-mpg car is worth 7. 5 percent. it's 12 percent for a 25-mpg vehicle -- the Emissions Analytics equipment needs to inhale more carbon dioxide burped out of the car to warrant a greater penalty. Of course, the fuel economy could nosedive if I floored it everywhere, though that's realistically not the way an "average" Accord Hybrid customer drives. Source: www.motortrend.com

First order of business, the long-term Honda Accord Hybrid has been trundling along famously. The wear may be more advanced than the typical Accord Hybrid owner would experience. I seldom accelerate and brake hard, but I do corner enthusiastically -- though maybe not as enthusiastically as the guy in the Viper who spun out into the weeds near my place the other day. And the missus doesn't think the dual-zone climate control adequately warms her side of the chambers compared with other vehicles we've traveled in -- her beach girl upbringing clashes with my temperate taste to create at least a 15-degree... That said, the Accord Hybrid is a remarkably effective collection of hardware and software. 0-second 0-60 mph time is 0. 6-second quicker than the average of four Accord I-4/CVT sedans we've tested despite the Hybrid weighing 231 pounds more and possessing 19-23 less peak hp. (The Sport model has the 4 extra ponies. The car has an official 196-hp total system power rating, but that's the amount produced by the 2. 0-liter engine and two-motor hybrid setup that allows the drive motor to send 166 hp to the front wheels (before transmission. The Honda Accord Hybrid is not a luxury car, but our top-flight Touring model has leather seats (as does the midlevel EX-L) that have been wearing in acceptably through 15,000 miles. Yet, for the amount of activity the other four seats have seen -- I'd bet good money the Accord Hybrid has the most butts-per-mile action of any current Motor Trend Garage long-termer -- each has been holding up well. You should also know that any adult who's sat in the middle rear seat for longer than 15 minutes -- yours truly included -- parrots the same message: The bench center's bottom is way harder than any other seat's. For example, the electric servo braking at first touch makes the brake pedal seem overly stiff, but it feels convincingly natural after you get used to its nuances, and when compared to the braking in other hybrid vehicles. One tidbit of knowledge I learned thanks to our partnership with Emissions Analytics: At a standstill, the car emits an average of 0. 245 pound of CO2 when the engine cycles on to top off a battery low on charge. If the car had earned 50 mpg over 10 miles until the extended pause, it would leave the stoplight at 47 mpg (44 mpg if you get stuck with two charge-ups). Source: www.motortrend.com
