A few weeks ago, I told you about the awful situation facing young married couple Jose Batiz and Dominique Oneal. They traded in their 2000 Honda Accord at 5 Towns Drive auto in Inwood, Long Island. They gave the dealership $1,500 down and drove off with a 2005 Accord with more than 114,000 miles on it. With 23. 99% financing, the car would wind up costing them more than $23,000. By any calculations, that adds up to a ripoff. At first, they couldn’t get a good title from the dealer. But in the meantime, so many things were wrong with their “new” car that they wanted a refund. First no refund, then after agreeing to a refund he told Dominique on the phone that he never made that promise. He also had demanded Dominique take down the bad review she’d posted on Yelp. The bottom line is, Dominique and Jose are good people. And there’s no way they should have gotten this deal in the first place. After our story aired, it seems the company doing the financing, Credit Acceptance Corporation, got the message. The dealership went along, even though someone had come along and keyed the 205 car they were returning. In the end, 5 Towns Drive took back the 2005 Accord and gave back Dominique and Jose’s old 2000 Accord along with their $1,500 deposit. Source: pix11.com
