Burglary suspects, sex offender lead authorities on 2-county chase in stolen truck - AL.com

Two wanted suspects fled Limestone County deputies until multiple agencies helped bring the chase to an end about a half hour later. Limestone County deputies had been searching for Christopher Joe Hodges, 44, and Buffy Lynn Wachsman, 39. Both had arrest warrants in connection to some recent burglaries in Limestone County. Limestone County Sheriff Mike Blakely said deputies were searching for the pair for several days. They were spotted at a convenience store in Ardmore Thursday afternoon, but they fled in a GMC Sonoma. Blakely said they attempted to elude deputies and led them on a chase southbound on Alabama 53. Deputies say speeds reached about 98 mph. Huntsville police and the Madison County Sheriff's Department joined in the pursuit as it entered their jurisdictions. Deputies say they used a "precision immobilization technique" to bring the truck to a stop. A witness, Billy Staggs, saw the runaway truck hit the spikes. Deputies learned the Sonoma was reported stolen in Huntsville about 10 days ago, Blakely said. During booking, deputies say they saw Hodges had tried to alter the sex offender notification on his driver's license during booking. Deputies say he may now face additional charges, including in Madison County. Source: www.al.com

Liam Fitzsimmons was fast asleep in his Bennett Valley home at 4 a. m. Monday when a pickup crashed into his bedroom, split his bed in half and catapulted him across the room and through a closet door. By late morning on Monday, Santa Rosa police had tracked down the suspected driver of the late-model red GMC that slammed into the front of the Marlatts’ home and through the boy’s bedroom wall, then fled the scene. Authorities arrested Timothy Charles Bendana, 23, at a family member’s home in Novato and charged him with three felony counts, including hit-and-run with injury, possession of marijuana and running a hash lab. “The truck had major damage, and there is no indication the driver intended to stop,” said Sgt. “We also found evidence in the driver’s home that indicated he was growing marijuana and producing hash that he intended to sell. Police said Bendana was running the drug operation from his Trinity Court home, about two blocks from the crash on Calaveras Drive, near Sacramento and Yulupa avenues in east Santa Rosa. They said they discovered glass pipes, marijuana plants and other materials needed to make hash at Bendana’s home. Police seized the drugs and the driver’s truck Monday. No further information was immediately available about the amount of drugs confiscated or whether the driver was under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Source: www.pressdemocrat.com

Ever wonder what new pickup truck gets sold the fastest after just one year of ownership. com , an average of 2. 7 percent of model-year 2014 new cars were sold after just one year of ownership, but there were seven vehicles with much higher percentages and one of those was a pickup truck. The auto research website analyzed 5 million model-year 2014 vehicles sold between September 2013 and March 2014, then checked back one year later to see what percentage of those vehicles were sold as used. The results put the Nissan Frontier in the No. 7 slot with 6. 9 percent of all 2014 Frontiers sold as used after just one year. Although the survey is not in-depth enough to reveal the reasons for selling the vehicles after just one year of ownership, the report can be seen as good news, bad news. For consumers it means good news: Those looking for a decent midsize pickup should be able to find bargains on the Frontier because of competition between sellers. However, this could be seen as bad news for Nissan because it seems that fewer buyers are happy with its small truck offering. Some sources say we are at least two years away from seeing a next-generation U. S. Frontier because Nissan is focusing on the upcoming Titan redesign.
