Like our time with the 2014 GMC Sierra V6, I’ll be brief. Compared to the outgoing GMT900 model, the K2XX GMC Sierra 1500 is an improvement in every category. It’s pleasant mystery how on earth this four-wheeled brick returns minimal wind noise, while the now electric power steering unit gives the half-ton truck a sharper feel (though not returning nearly as many sensations as the outgoing setup). To be clear, the Sierra isn’t a mobile couch — the suspension does have to be stiff enough to handle what will be as much as 12,000 pounds max towing with its 6. 2L V8 engine which will be made available later this year — so don’t assume into... Many would agree in saying that GM’s new trucks are the quietest in the segment right now, and the fuel economy promise of 24 highway miles per gallon out of the 4. 3L V6 engine with class-leading power makes the 2014 Sierra a standout everyday... More impressively, the 18 city/24 highway miles per gallon with the 2WD model is achieved with the use of a six-speed automatic. We expect that these class-leading numbers will be reset again as soon as next year with the implementation of the upcoming eight-speed transmissions. And despite being a V6 model, the output is currently class-leading , at 285 hp and 305 lb-ft of torque. Source: gmauthority.com

The Hydra-Matic 6L80 (production code MYC) is a six-speed automatic transmission produced by General Motors for use in rear- and rear-biased all-wheel-drive vehicles with a longitudinal powertrain orientation. Developed in-house by General Motors, the Hydra-Matic 6L80 is part of the 6LXX family of fuel-saving, electronically controlled six-speed automatic transmissions that succeeded the 5LXX family. The modular design of the Hydra-Matic 6L80 (MYC) is shared with variants rated for different torque levels to accommodate various engines and vehicle applications. All versions share a unique output gearset configuration that enables it a wider range of ratios than a conventional planetary gearset automatic transmission. The wide overall ratio spread of 6. 04:1 allows a “steep” first gear, as well as a very “tall” overdrive top gear for low-rpm highway cruising. All versions use three gearsets: a simple input planetary gearset and two output gearsets, one of which is a compound gearset with three pairs of two pinion gears on the output carrier, one pair meshing with the sun gear and the other with the... Performance Algorithm Shifting (PAS) monitors how assertively the driver is using engine output to determine at what engine speed to upshift or downshift. GM's Opel To Decrease Production At Two German Plants Due To Lost Volume In Russia - GM Authority (blog)

General Motors’ German subsidiary, Opel , will decrease production at two factories in Germany over lost sales volume in Russia. Opel originally planned to sell over 80,000 cars in Russia in 2015, but actual sales for the first half of the year have been roughly 9,000 units, down 73 percent year-over-year as a result of a weakened Russian economy affected by lower oil... As a result of the lower sales volume in Russia, the carmaker will shorten hours at its plants in Ruesselsheim and in Eisenach, which produce the Adam Opel and Insignia, respectively. The carmaker will also apply for subsidies for about 25 working days in Eisenach and 15 days in Ruesselsheim under Germany’s “Kurzarbeit” program. In contrast to the Russian market, Opel sales in Europe were developing “moderately”, but the automaker remains confident in its ability to continue to grow its sales volume.
