GMC has accomplished exactly that in 2015 with its Sierra 1500 truck. At its core, the 1500 has power. The base model 4. 3-liter EcoTec V6 balances 285 horsepower with up to 24 miles per gallon on the highway. If that's not enough power, drivers can choose a V8 engine with either 5. 3- or 6. 2-liters of displacement, for up to 420 horsepower. None of that power is useful, however, without control, and the GMC 1500 is loaded with innovations to that end. A 6 or optional 8-speed transmission efficiently switches between towing power and highway cruising. The brain of the GMC 1500 includes StabiliTrak and Hill Descent, both of which can detect the conditions the 1500 is navigating and adjust power to keep drivers on the road even in the toughest of conditions. Mind you, that’s not a bad thing -- the Sierra is a smooth, refined pickup truck with interior equipment befitting a luxury sedan. wouldn’t the 15,000 Sierra buyers in February have opted for an identical Silverado if the GMC wasn’t an option. Anyway, if you want to buy a Chevrolet pickup but you have an issue with the Chevrolet brand, get a Sierra and pretend it’s not a Chevrolet. Our long-term Silverado, a Silverado High Country, this thing and then back to the long-term Silverado -- all equipped with the 6. 2-liter.
