Ford builds medium-duty trucks in US for first time - USA TODAY

DETROIT — Ford celebrates the start of medium-duty truck production in the U. S. on Wednesday. Joe Hinrichs, president of Ford Motor's ( F ) The Americas, was to be in Avon Lake, Ohio, for the production launch of the new 2016 Ford F-650 and F-750 medium-duty trucks which had been built in Mexico in a joint venture plant with Navistar. "Working with our partners in the UAW, we found a way to make the costs competitive enough to bring production of a whole new generation of work trucks to Ohio. "Through collective bargaining, we were able to secure production of the Ford F-650/F-750 to Ohio Assembly Plant," said Jimmy Settles, UAW vice president and director, National Ford Department, in a news release. The union is already upset that Ford recently announced plans to spend $2. 5 billion to build new engines and transmissions in Mexico. The Avon Lake plant built the E-Series van until the summer of 2014. The van has been discontinued but the plant continues to make the E-Series cutaway vans and stripped chassis that are used for vehicles such as ambulances. The F-650 and F-750 commercial trucks are available in regular, crew and super cab body styles as well as tractor trailer and other versions for commercial use. Source: www.usatoday.com
