Ford Likely Will Limit Aluminum Use to Pickups - PickupTrucks.com

In case you were wondering when Ford was going to start making all its cars, SUVs and crossovers out of aluminum, that time is not likely to come soon. According to Automotive News , what makes sense for half-ton and Super Duty pickup trucks might not be as cost effective for cars, crossovers and SUVs. The obvious benefits of aluminum bodies — better fuel economy, higher actual payloads and more towing capacity — only seem to make sense when building pickup trucks, according to Joe Hinrichs, Ford's president of the Americas. Pickups gain the most obvious capacity and capability with aluminum, and pickup buyers are willing to pay more for those benefits. Hinrichs said Ford "sees better, more cost effective ways to improve the fuel economy of its cars. Still, as Ford moves forward with plans to redesign the Super Duty, it will be interesting to see if those buyers are as willing to accept aluminum as it seems half-ton buyers are. The 2015 F-150 4x4 SC only has a 6300 GVWR and 8000 lb towing, my exact equip 2013 F-150 4x4 SC has 7350 GVWR and 9600 lb towing. you guys running Ford never learned from your past mistakes, the eco-boost was a flop, now you keep the eco-boost and ADD aluminum. 2016 Ford F-150 Will Get All-New Pro Trailer Backup Assist - Top Speed

It’s called the Pro Trailer Backup Assist and it utilizes the F-150’s new electronic steering system to remove the counterintuitive steering required when reversing with a trailer. The driver simply rotates the knob left or right – in the same direction he or she needs the trailer to go – and the electronic system takes over the steering. The Pro Trailer Backup Assist removes the need for the driver to counter steer the truck – a task that can sometimes befuddle the best of us. Ford hasn’t announced how much the option will cost, but figure around $500. Likewise, Ford has not... Ford’s new Pro Trailer system will help these unblessed folks not embarrass themselves at the boat launch or in the driveway of their new house as they back in the moving trailer. Ford does say this systems isn’t just for the novices, but will also help speed up the time it take for an “expert” to back a trailer. Pro Trailer is Ford’s latest tech designed to help pulling a trailer easier. Thankfully that system has been adopted across the pickup truck board. So has trailer sway control and integrated trailer brakes – both of which came from Ford’s R&D department. For me, I would find it hard not to counter steer while backing a trailer.
