In a period of just five days last week, an Alabama police dog died after being forgotten in the back seat of a patrol car at a conference in Gulf Shores, and two other pups were rescued alive after spending seven hours in a hot truck in... "It's a serious problem,'' said Dr. B. J. Cash, chief medical officer for the Alabama Shelter Veterinarians. On Sunday, June 14, Jefferson County sheriff's deputies rescued two small dogs from a truck where inside temperatures reached 130 degrees while their owner sold lemonade at Barber Motorsports Park. A Jefferson County sheriff's sergeant was working at the Triumph Superbike Challenge on Sunday when track security officers notified him there was a green Ford F-250 parked next to the bathrooms that had two dogs inside and unattended. Workers told the sergeant they heard the dogs whining, looked inside the truck and spotted them on the floorboard. The temperature outside was 89 degrees, and the estimated temperature inside the pickup was 130 degrees, according to court records. Both dogs looked distressed, were panting heavily, and appeared to be lethargic, the report said. The doors to the truck were unlocked, so authorities removed the dogs and put them into an air conditioned vehicle. Source: www.al.com

Ford F-250 Super Chief Concept - IGN

We don't know what to think about Ford's F-250 Super Chief concept. On one hand, this truck exemplifies everything we dislike about the modern SUV/Large Truck trend: it's large, bulky and it's built like a tank. On the other hand, this Super Chief is packed with more luxury than a Maybach, has more style than the Designer's Republic and is more eco-friendly than your hippie parents' Prius. This F-250 is dubbed "Super Chief" after the Super Chief trains that ran across the U. S. back in the 1940's because, well, this truck looks like one of those old trains. The Super Chiefs of old carried a lot of Art Deco styling cues, but with this being the 21st Century and all, Ford's Super Chief gets a decidedly techno-inspired visual vibe. On the outside of this truck, we're actually feeling the 3-bar grille that seems to be Ford's new "American Face". We like the 3 bars on the Fusion, we like the 3 bars on the Edge, and we like the 3 bars here. We're also really feeling the LED headlights and neon-look tail lights. We also really like the Goodyear-wrapped 24-inch rims. However, we're not feeling the big "Super Chief" logo on the front of the truck. Ford: Shutdown just one week at LAP - The Courier-Journal

For the third straight year, Ford Motor Co. will cut the summer shutdown from two weeks to one week to meet ongoing demand for its pickup trucks and SUV's at selected North American assembly plants, including Louisville Assembly Plant on Fern... The reduction also affects 10 stamping, transmission and axle plants and roughly 5,000 local workers at LAP and the Kentucky Stamping Plant, which is housed inside the truck plant in eastern Jefferson County. But because of strong demand for F-150, Edge, Escape and Explorer, officials said, six assembly plants and supporting powertrain and stamping plants will shut down only the week of June 29 in Louisville, as well at Chicago, Dearborn Truck, Kansas... Ford's Escape SUV and its luxury Lincoln MKC are manufactured at LAP, while F-250 and larger Super Duty pickups are produced at KTP with the Expedition and Lincoln Navigator. Ford officials first said in statement that both Louisville plants would close for a week, then corrected its information Tuesday morning to say that KTP would remain on the two-week shutdown. Employees with elevated seniority at LAP can still take vacation around the one-week shutdown and other workers take the paid vacation week during other times during the summer.
