Police seek answers to area's unsolved homicides - Ocala

Fuller discovered the body of her son in his front yard the morning of Oct. The Marion County Sheriff's Office thinks Moffitt was ambushed and died from blunt trauma. “Wherever I go, he goes with me,” said Fuller, referring to a heart-shaped necklace that contains some of her son's ashes. Fuller is one of 34 “cold cases” — unsolved homicides — that the agency is working. Like many law enforcement agencies, the Sheriff's Office employs creative ways to make sure that cold cases aren't forgotten — either inside or outside the agency. On the back of the cards was information about cold cases statewide. The agency's newest wrinkle has an old-school flavor: It has erected two billboards and two very large signs that contain photos of two deceased men and two women, as well as some details about their cases. Moffitt is one of the featured victims. Also, at the courthouse in downtown Ocala — as well as the main lobby at the sheriff's complex and in each of the agency's district offices — there are cardboard displays of all the cold cases dating back to 1958.
