The Ford brand will get an aluminum-bodied Super Duty and several new high-performance cars in the coming year. F-150: If you haven't heard, the F-150 was redesigned for 2015 with an aluminum body that helped the truck drop 700 pounds from the previous generation. Ford is responding to customer demands for high-end F-150s by reintroducing a $60,000-and-up Limited trim for the 2016 model year. A Raptor high-performance version, unveiled in January, is on tap for 2016. Also new for 2016 is a sport mode and Ford's Sync 3 infotainment system to replace MyFord Touch. The F-150 will get Ford's new 10-speed transmission, developed with General Motors, probably for the 2017 model year. Super Duty: Ford has said it's putting the Super Duty through the same aluminum lightweighting transformation that the F-150 underwent for 2015. It also may use a good deal of magnesium, as evidenced by a spectacular fire that immolated a Super... Meth possession, Royalton Road: On July 28, police observed a green Ford pickup truck abruptly change lanes. When police ran the truck's information, it turned out the registration was expired. The driver said the reason the truck had expired plates was because it belonged to his father. The driver also admitted he didn't have a driver's license. During a search of the truck, police found pills, white powder (believed to be meth), syringes, a spoon and cotton swabs. The driver was arrested for driving under suspension, expired plates, possession of meth, drug abuse instruments, illegal manufacture of drugs and illegal assembly of chemicals. DEARBORN, Michigan (AP) — Ford Motor Co. 's net income jumped 44 percent to $1. 9 billion in the second quarter as global sales rose and customers paid more for new trucks and SUVs with premium features. Ford pulled off a record quarterly profit of $2. 6 billion in North America even though dealerships weren't fully stocked with its best-selling vehicle, the F-150 pickup. The results bode well for the second half of the year, when Ford's two U. S. truck plants will be in full production and dealers will have more pickups to sell. In North America, technology-rich versions of the Ford Explorer, Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX SUVs drew buyers to showrooms even as smaller, less-profitable cars like the Focus struggled. Ford said F-150 buyers paid an average of $3,800 more per truck in the second quarter, loading them up with features like a 360-degree camera and adaptive cruise control. Outside North America, new vehicles like the new S-Max wagon in Europe, the Ka small car in South America and the Mustang sports car in China commanded higher prices. The results mirrored those at Ford's crosstown rival, General Motors, which last week reported a record second-quarter profit of $2. 8 billion in North America on the strength of its SUV and truck sales.
