Chrysler has asked that the South Puget Sound Community College in Olympia, Wa. crush a 1992 Dodge Viper, reports the Seattle Times. The pre-production muscle car, the fourth such model to be produced, is worth up to $250,000. “It’s like the day Kennedy was shot,” Norm Chapman, automotive-technology professor at SPSCC, told the Times. Coming across a Dodge Viper on America's roads is something like spotting a four-leaf clover. Consider this: Since 1992, Dodge has produced around 32,000 Vipers. But this weekend, if you're in Gatlinburg, Vipers will be everywhere you look. The Alabama-Tennessee Viper Club Car Rally is in town, and approximately 150 of the powerhouse sports cars will be cruising the streets as enthusiasts visit with each other to revel in their love of the automobiles. "They just don't make that many of them," Chip Winter, a member of the club and organizer of the annual event, said about the appeal of the vehicle. But the Viper is something that you just don't see. Dodge introduced Viper in a time when high-horsepower, U. S. -made cars were few, and with its unique styling, the 400-horsepower two-seater was a real novelty. Owners can be passionate about the model, and that's what drove Winter, and a few others, to start the annual meeting in Sevier County in 2005. Now in its 10th year, the event has grown from just four or five cars to national prominence. Viper owners from across the continental U.
