According to the product launch announcement from MagnaFlow , the exhaust setup is a custom cat-back, five-inch diameter pipe that has a single exit on the passenger side of the truck behind the rear wheel. It reportedly is designed for 2004 to 2007 Dodge Ram 2500 and 3500 trucks with the Cummins 5. 9-liter inline six diesel engine, but not for standard-cab versions of the diesel trucks. Made of aluminized, mandrel-bent, welded steel, the MagnaFlow exhaust setup for 2004 to 2007 Dodge Ram diesel trucks comes with a limited warranty and is dyno-tested to make power, MagnaFlow said. MagnaFlow said the setup also comes with all necessary brackets and clamps for easy installation. In December, 7 Action News contacted FCA officials about owner complaints of diesel exhaust entering truck cabins. After first insisting that the problem affected only a handful of vehicles nationwide, FCA now says that the problem is bigger than they first reported, but insists owners' health is not at risk. Last year, it became the only back-to-back winner of Motor Trend's Truck of the Year, in part, according to the magazine's editor in chief, because of its game-changing diesel technology. When Ram introduced the the 1500 Ecodiesel in 2014, it promised a rough and tough truck that could also deliver great fuel economy: up to 28 miles per gallon. "At its worst, you kind of fell like maybe you should pull over and not drive," said Hank Vanderhulst, a Ram owner who we spoke to from California. Vanderhulst's 1500 was his third Ram truck. He loved it at first, but said that five months later, his truck's cabin started to fill with exhaust fumes. Within a few months—and only 3,000 miles on the road—that diesel smell started to pump through their air conditioning vents, too. 2014 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel Long-Term Update: Adding Diesel Exhaust Fluid - Kelley Blue Book

Even in heavy Southern California traffic, the Ram has so far averaged around 21-22 mpg, and one highway-heavy road trip even netted nearly 30 mpg. Part of the reason that modern diesels run so cleanly is due to a urea-injection system that keeps the exhaust free of soot and odors. Of course, this fluid needs to be refilled occasionally, and with the miles quickly piling up, it wasn't long before warnings began flashing on the Ram's information screen that in 500 miles it wouldn't start unless the DEF was refilled. When that estimate went down to 480 miles in far less than 20 miles, we decided it was time to refill the DEF tank. Ram has thoughtfully put the refill for the tank adjacent to the fuel filler itself, with a blue cap marked "DEF/AdBlue. " We twisted off the cap, inserted a funnel, and started pouring in the DEF, a bit surprised that it was clear, despite the blue cap, the "BlueDEF" name, and all the other blue associated with the fluid. One gallon barely moved the DEF indicator needle on the dash, and we eventually added about 7. 5 gallons in total before the DEF started to bubble out of the filler neck. Source: www.kbb.com
